Asbestos Types
There are generally three types of asbestos that are naturally found. These are the white asbestos, the black asbestos, and the blue asbestos. Out of these three the black asbestos and the blue asbestos are the ones that are most likely to cause the cancer of mesothelioma. The latest research has shown that even white asbestos to some an extent can cause the cancer of mesothelioma. The asbestos is a fibrous mineral. When the asbestos is pressurized and disturbed then it releases the fibers that are smaller in size. The further disturbance leads to the splitting of the fibers into still smaller strands and the process continues even beyond the size of microscopic level. It is this minuteness in the size of the fiber that makes it very difficult to remove from the air. Also it is this smallness in the size that allows it to enter the human body without any detection. The asbestos fiber has a long latency period during which it remains dormant in the human body. It is only after a lapse of several years that this fiber starts interfering with the normal functioning of the mesothelial cells. |
