During the years of industrial revolution, the mineral of asbestos was used quite extensively for various purposes. In fact the magical properties that this mineral exhibited were known to the ancient Greeks as well as Romans. While these ancients were aware of the properties of the asbestos, they also knew that asbestos has a harmful effect on the health of the slaves who were working with the mineral. Howsoever their findings were ignored and this mineral was used quite extensively in various applications during the industrial revolution. As a result majority of the people who worked in these sites were exposed to this mineral. Some of the job sites that are most likely to contain the asbestos mineral are oil refineries, the automobile industry, the hospitals and other construction sites.
People who work in these areas are the most likely to develop asbestos related cancer like mesothelioma. It is highly recommended that the respective governments and the concerned authorities take appropriate steps to safeguard the health interests of the workers in these areas. The use of asbestos should be immediately banned and its mining should be stopped with immediate effects. |
