Metal works
People who are most likely to develop mesothelioma are the ones who have been exposed to it for a very long duration of time and also in substantial amounts. A significant number of people who are now at the risk of developing mesothelioma are the ones who were exposed to it at their workplace. One work place where asbestos was found in large quantities was the metal works area. Asbestos has some tremendous properties like durability, and high resistance to fire and heat. As a result it was used quite extensively in manufacturing insulating metal materials. Some places where the work environment would be the richest in asbestos are the rail roads, mines and steel yards. People working in these environments are the most likely to develop mesothelioma. Some products that are the most likely to release the asbestos fibers and dust in the air are the brakes and clutches, hot water pipes, gaskets, and steam pipes.
The mining and use of asbestos is banned in many countries. The countries that first discovered the case of mesothelioma as related to asbestos were the first to ban it. Many countries followed suits and at present many countries are planning to regulate the use of asbestos in their respective countries. But still there are many countries that have not banned the use of asbestos and are actively engaged in the mining and application of asbestos in various processes. People living in these countries are the most vulnerable towards the development of mesothelioma. People who work in asbestos rich areas should ask their employers to provide protective gear |
