Exposure to Asbestos and Mesothelioma Contraction

Since the 1940’s, there have been millions of workers in America exposed to asbestos. Heath hazards from asbestos have been recognized is workers from many areas. Asbestos mining and mills, shipbuilding, asbestos textile manufacturers, the construction industry, the automotive industry, drywall removers, demolition workers, and firefighters, all have had substantial exposure to asbestos.

It is not a myth that the Smoking also affects the Mesothelioma patients infact the number of patients who smoke and also have an exposure to Asbestos at there workplaces have 50% greater chances of dying as compared to the others. The risk of exposure varies depending on the industry in which the exposure occurs. No asbestos fiber should be considered safe so proper safety gear should always be used.

Exposure to Asbestos increases the risk of developing Asbestosis. Asbestosis is one another disease that is caused due to Asbestos exposure. In this disease scarring of the pulmonary tissue throughout occurs.

There are a few cancers associated with asbestos exposure they are as follows:-
  1. Renal Cancer
  2. Laryngeal Cancer
  3. Cancer of the Gut
  4. Oropharyngeal Cancer.
Pleural Mesothelioma makes up around 75% of all Mesothelioma cases. The disease enlarges the pleural space, which causes it to fill with fluid. The build up of fluid causes discomfort or pain, often the first noticeable symptoms of the disease. It is believed that pleural Mesothelioma is the result of inhaling fibrous materials specifically asbestos. The fibers become lodged in the pleura, then over time, they damage the tissue layer and cancer erupts.
